Mozaik Design Showroom in Istanbul is a re-imagined furniture showroom, built around the raw character of concrete and steel.
Commissioned by Mozaik, Turkey's leading international furniture distributor, the project brings precision and imperfection into the same room. For over thirty years, Mozaik has been one of the principal channels by which European design has reached Turkey, its collection running from pieces in MoMA's permanent collection to roughly 150 houses, including B&B Italia, Vitra, and Flos.
The design began by stripping the space back to its core: a raw concrete shell, its flaws, patina, and structural honesty retained. Against it sits a clean, floating framework that redefines circulation and display: a steel mezzanine drifting through the volume, guided by staircases at either end. A recurring dialogue unfolds between new and old, polished and rough, through an interplay of transparency, texture, and verticality.
At the centre, a sculptural spiral staircase enclosed within a translucent volume forms the heart of the plan, a semi-open exhibition zone for statement lighting. Spatial flow is choreographed through layered views and fluid transitions. Cut-outs, steel mesh curtains, and semi-transparent partitions keep the space visually connected while framing a curated, focused encounter with each piece.
A glass bridge spans between the core and the mezzanine. Reflections of the lighting panels and the chartreuse carpet converge on its surface, making it both a physical and a metaphorical intersection.
The material palette is quiet and tactile: brushed steel, white plaster, glass, and concrete, with a single accent of red in the miniature display element, echoing Mozaik's brand colour and drawing visitors inward.
