Macka Sanat Galerisi — New Year Installation
The Macka Art Gallery's Traditional New Year Gathering, where architecture meets art, selects a different architect each year to design its annual exhibition. For the gallery's 50th anniversary, architects Ece Gökmenoğlu and M. Onur Durna brought the installation Bir Arada — Together to life.
The installation designed for this exhibition emerges from the collective nature of New Year rituals and the spirit of togetherness. Taking its cue from Mehmet Konuralp's 10 × 10 cm tile grid, the work centers on a New Year tree. This tree invites everyone to make their New Year wishes together and to assemble the tree as one.
Throughout the exhibition, the tree grows and transforms through visitor participation, taking on a new form with each contribution.
At the close of the exhibition, this tree, grown through the wishes of its participants, is disassembled, and every wish that became part of it continues to live on in a new form.
